About This Item

Boston: Ginn And Company, ( 1904 ). First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Good. 16mo, 212 pages, pictorial green cloth, marginal nick in leaf 9/10, bump in top edge, tight and fresh but a bit cocked.

Translated by Walter S. Camp, revised by Sara E H. Lockwood. Illustrated by Charles Copeland. "The Florentines call it a literary jewel, and as such it should be known to all young readers. In order to preserve the unique flavor of the story as much as possible the translator has followed the original story rather closely. ... In the present volume, as in the original, the pictures play an important part which is not likely to be overlooked by the readers for whom the book is designed." - Preface. Issued in the Once-Upon-A-Time Series. Copeland also illustrated the original edition of Knight's THE SONG OF OUR SYRIAN GUEST.

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
