Erie, PA: Herald Printing and Publishing Company, 1891. First Edition. Hardcover. Good+. 512 pp, in original gray cloth binding, with faded gilt titles. Illustrated with portraits and somewhat amateurish line drawings. Boards edgeworn, previous owner's name on front free endpaper; front hinge just a bit wobbly, but binding sound, text clean. In addition to folksy tales of pioneer life in Pennsylvania and Ohio, this volume includes content on the early American petroleum industy. Eberstadt: "Early days in the oil regions; Drake's discovery; Franklin; Oil City; the Stede Farm; oil production; Bennehoff robbery of half a million; Titusville, etc." Howes S-108.
