About This Item

Very Good +. No dust jacket, but volume is unmarked except for stamp of former owner, Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (he was then Curator of the Henry Charles Lea Library at the University of Pennsylvania). Binding tight, all pages bright, clean and intact. Except for lack of dust jacket, tiny tear on flyleaf, and some tanning of spine, the volume is like new.

Probably the first treatment in English of the considerable influence toward reform of penal institutions inspired by the enlightened practices of two major houses of correction in Amsterdam. The distinguished Swedish-American sociologist and penologist Thorsten Sellin (1896–1994) was one of the pioneers of scientific criminology.
