Extended Description and Notes
Limited edition of 2050 sets.
When the English edition was issued, the publisher was charged with obscenity and found guilty under the Obsene Publication Act. The text in this edition is taken exactly from that of the 1895 edition and printed with permission of M. Zola.
Pot-Boille, Stew Pot, is a critique of the hypocritical behaviors of the bourgeois of the second French Empire. The novel is set in a Parisian apartment building - a new type of housing at that time; the title reflects the desperate and sometimes unpleasant elements lurking behind the building's decorative facade.
