About This Item
New Haven: Yale University Press, 1988 TO THE PLACE OF TRUMPETS by BRIGIT PEGEEN KELLY. FOREWORD BY JAMES MERRILL. New Haven, Yale University Press. 1988. First Edition, first printing with the number line starting with 1 (one) on copyright page. This is the rare and highly-sought after First book of poetry by renowned American poet Brigit Pegeen Kelly. Kelly's poems have since won many prizes but she was still relatively unknown when the great poet James Merrill chose this collection of Kelly's poems as the winner of the Yale Prize for the Series of Younger Poets. Merrill has written a warm and effusive introduction to these poems. Kelly has published only three books, this being the first, 'Song' was published in 1995, and 'Orchard' was published in 2004. A very small number of copies of this book were printed and it is now long out of print, rare and highly sought-after. Most hardcover copies of this book that do come up for sale are former library books, making this non-institutional copy even more rare and valuable. Condition: Very Good condition. Octavo-sized hardcover book with Dust Jacket; xiii + 70 pages of text. The book is complete with neither markings nor writing nor tears in the text or dustjacket. The pages have some very light foxing to paper edges when book is closed. The Title page has a horizontal crease outside the printed area caused by the printer. A very thin piece of archival book tape can be placed on reverse side Copyright page to strengthen this area if the buyer desires it. Original cloth binding with gilt lettering. Very Good condition Dust Jacket with light wear to edge and small wrinkle to back cover edge. There is very light sunfading to spine. A solid and attractive copy of this rare book. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
