About This Item

London England: Frank Cass and Co Limited, 1965. During the short period between the establishment of the Chinese Communist government in 1949 and autumn 1958 the economic organization of agriculture experienced a spectacular revolution. The tiny, fragmented peasant farms of 1.34 hectares, privately owned either by landlords or peasant occupiers, were replaced in turn by mutual aid teams, agricultural producers co-operatives, collective farms, and, finally, by the People's communes. The aim of this essay is to outline some of the many real problems encountered by the Chinese government in carrying through a social and economic revolution in the countryside. 109pp including index A VERY CLEAN COPY!
