About This Item
Baltimore: Playbill Magazine / Mechanic Theatre, 1978. Paperback. Very Good. Paperback. Originally preformed at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston for a limited time, Dracula appeared at the end of October in New York on Broadway at the Martin Beck theatre in 1977. This dramatised version of Dracula starring Raul Julia (who replaced Frank Langella) featured costumes and scenery designed by Edward Gorey. True to Gorey's illustration style, the costumes were all designed in black, white, and gray with touches of red. He won a Tony award for his costume designs and was nominated for a Tony for his set designs for this play. The cover of this Playbill for the Baltimore performance features an illustration by Gorey. Unlike the New York edition of the Playbill, this Baltimore edition does not include Gorey's costume sketches or photographs from the play. Still, an uncommon and collectible item. Includes an article on John Travolta and advertisements for many Baltimore area businesses. Bound in white side-stapled illustrated paper wrappers with title to front cover. Includes a laid in ad for Gracious Living, a show by Samuel Tayor coming to the Mechanic in the summer of 1978. Creasing and tears to edges of this oversized ad. Unpaginated. DRA/120723.
