Very good (+).<br/><br/> "The Happy Prescription", "Marcella" and three other works, in verse, by the "great idol of the decadence of 18th century poetry." CHEL XI 195. Author of "The Triumphs of Temper" and other popularly successful poems, Hayley was criticized and ridiculed by Byron and his contemporaries. Even his friend Robert Southey once wrote: "Everything about that man is good except his poetry." DNB; Lowndes 1017.<br/><br/>
