First edition, first impression, of Lowell's first British publication, comprising all the poems in his Pulitzer Prize winning Lord Weary's Castle (1947) plus six new ones. "With the publication of Poems 1938-1949 under the imprint of Faber and Faber in 1950, Lowell's reputation reached international proportions" (Staples, p. 11). Octavo. Original red cloth, gilt lettering to spine, bottom edge untrimmed. With dust jacket. Housed in a custom black solander box. Spine ends and corners lightly rubbed, small bump to foot of spine, faint foxing to edges, light offsetting to blanks, contents clean. A very good copy indeed in very good jacket, a little rubbed, spine panel browned, edges slightly faded, couple of short tears at folds, else bright. Hugh. B.
