About This Item
[Omaha, NE?]: Gazette Collective, [1972]. First Edition. Octavo (21.5cm); original pictorial card wrappers, stapled; 36pp. Light edgewear, with scattered foxing to upper edge of text; Near Fine. Rice's first book of poetry, written from prison in Omaha, NE. Rice, along with Ed Poindexter, were both both leaders in the Omaha chapter of the Black Panthers' National Committee to Combat Fascism. Both men were fingered by 15 year-old Duane Peake as the masterminds behind the 1970 bombing murder of Omaha police officer Larry Minard, though it is now known that the men, known as "The Omaha Two," were implicated falsely as part of the FBI's COINTELPRO case against the Panthers. Uncommon; we find no copies for sale in the trade (2023), with OCLC notes 7 holdings, with as many copies listed (incorrectly) under the cover title Om Poetry.
