Edinburgh: Thomas Constable, 1856.. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 312 pages. 19 x 13 cm. Original cloth, gilt, with Celtic harp on top board. Binding only very slightly marked and frayed at top and tail of spine. Dedicated to Charles Dickens Ballantine was born in the West Port of Edinburgh in 1806. He started as a house painter before becoming a celebrated practitioner of glass painting. The stained glass windows in the English House of Lords are his work. He was an admirer of Burns and also wrote some of his poems, songs and ballads in dialect. He died in 1877.
