"To a generation accustomed to a poetical style (writers of the couplet) whose brightness was often concealed by the smoke which enveloped it, the consistent clearness and brightness of Waller's verse must have compensated for its want of that splendour which was frequent but intermittent in the writers of the fantastic school." Engraved frontispiece of Waller, very clean and fresh copy, elegant binding, raised bands, spine panels richly gilt, two black leather spine labels, two-toned cover border panels in tan and brown, marbled endpapers.
