Illustrated with four original sepia toned photographs, mounted. 4to, beautifully bound in fine full red morocco, the covers with triple gilt fillet lines at the borders, the spine richly gilt incorporating central floral tools within elaborate panel designs, the compartments separated by raised bands gilt ruled, one compartment lettered in gilt, finely tooled gilt turnovers, dentelles gilt and a.e.g., marbled endleaves. xvi, 415, [1 colophon] pp. A fine copy, fresh and clean internally and with the binding in fine order and very well preserved with very minimal evidence of aging. BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED AT THE CHISWICK PRESS AND WITH THE ADDITION OF FOUR VERY EARLY PHOTOGRAPHS TIPPED IN. Included is Thomas Grays masterpiece, one of the best-loved eighteenth-century English poems, and certainly among the most influential single works of poetry -- “An Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard”. Additionally there are a profusion of the other poems written by the author as well as notes on the poems. Forty five of Gray’s letters are also included.
