All edges gilt, gilt-tooled borders, marbled endpapers. Worn corners, some scratches to covers, circular mark on rear board, chipped spine label. Name clipped from half-title. Presentation page for a school prize at Eton with names Cecilio Aylmer Porter and Jacobus J. Hornsby, 1881. Minor foxing.
Contains the famous Elegy written in a Country Church-yard as well as the disturbing Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat. Riviere was a London bookbinder of Huguenot descent who headed the leading bookbinding firm of his day, commissioned by Queen Victoria as well as leading bibliophiles.
