About This Item
London: Gay & Hancock, 1912. Hardcover. Very good. Edition de Luxe, this is No. 71 of 500 copies signed by Ella Wheeler Wilcox and Dudley Tennant. A pairing of two of the most popular collections by American poet and journalist Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919), who is perhaps best remembered for verse tinged with an eroticism that, while rather oblique, was still unconventional for her time. Quarto: 267 p. with 20 tipped-in color plates. Original vellum binding, with elaborate gilt stamping and a fore-edge ribbon tie. Light foxing to the contents, more so to the prefatory and concluding leaves. The boards are bowed, with some general soiling to the vellum; otherwise very good.
From the library of revered English actor, comedian, musician, and writer Eric Idle, accompanied by a letter of provenance. Idle (b.1943) is a founding member of the British comedy troupe Monty Python, as well as the parody rock group The Rutles, and is the writer of the music and lyrics for the hit Broadway musical Spamalot.
