About This Item
London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner, & Co. Ltd, 1895. Hardcover. Very good. New Edition Revised and Enlarged, No. 221 of 750 copies with etchings on handmade paper. Signed by Austin Dobson on a sheet of paper tipped in on a prefatory blank leaf in the first volumes. Dobson (1840-1921) was an English poet, critic, and biographer whose love and knowledge of the 18th century lent a graceful elegance to his verse. Eight plates, including the frontispiece portrait by W. Strang. Octavo, two volumes. In full red calf bindings by Bumpus, with lovely Art Nouveau designs stamped in gilt, five raised bands, and ornamental dentelles. The spines are moderately browned, with a bit of scuffing along the extremities; otherwise very good.
