BOSTON: James R. Osgood & Co., 1872. First Edition . Decorative Cloth. Fine/No Jacket. 24mo - over 5 - 5¾" tall. First Edition/2nd State 1872. A handsome copy in green cloth with gilt decorations to the front board and spine. This copy is in fine condition--only a couple of light flecks to the front board. Magnificent gold gilt decoration to the front board of a "Winged Urn" which would become Holmes decoration of choice for his future publications. This copy has a perfectly intact tissue guard over the title page and frontispiece. No spine give or interior markings--in magnificent shape for a book of 150 years. Two copies available--from a recent auction with the auction tag tipped in.
