Mercure de France, 1917. Hardcover. Very Good. Very Good ; No jackets. 1916 and 1917 Mercure de France. Two Volumes. Text in French. NOT ex-library. Hardcovers, half-bound (spine, part of the boards, and corners) in leather with gilt ruled borders over marbled paper. Brown, blue, and green marbling is in Spanish Moire over Turkish pattern. Endpapers have light blue marbling. Spine has five raised bands, with gilt ribbon and dot pattern. Panels have gilt ruled borders; gilt lettering in two panels. Remaining panels have floral devices at center and corners. Top edges gilt. Deckle fore edges. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends lightly bumped and rubbed. It appears as though the leather was once green, but the spines and most edges have faded to brown. Some cracking of leather along exterior hinge lines. Covers have light surface and edge wear. Imprinted bookplate on front free endpaper of volume 1; small pencil notation at top inner corner of first flyleaf. Edges of endpapers have tanned where in contact with leather. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Small roughened areas on verso of rear free endpaper where small label was removed. Pages clean and unmarked. 358 +392 pages. Twenty-sixth edition. No dust jacket, as issued. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
