About This Item
Bell and Daldy, 1860. Hardcover. Near Fine. Green cloth boards with black decorative frames and designs, gilt panels for lettering are bright on spines and front boards, 6-3/4" tall. Some pages uncut, offsetting to end-papers. The "Aldine Poets" series was begun by William Pickering in 1835, continued by Bell and Daldy starting in 1853 when Pickering went out of business, and continued by George Bell and Sons in the 1880s. This set of Spenser was printed at the Chiswick Press. A lovely Victorian design (which was kept for decades as the series binding), this was designed to be tasteful and appealing to a wide audience. This set probably circa 1860-70.
