Edinburgh: Apollo Press for John Bell, 1784. 3 volumes. 179, 208, 188 pp, additional engraved titles, engraved portrait. Contemporary tree calf bordered in gilt with gilt decoration to spine, maroon and black leather title labels; marbled endpapers. Lightly worn at edges and spine with each volume having the 18th century bookplate of A Walker, Newry at front. Damp mark to each engraved title only, and light toning to preliminaries; some offsetting from engraved title to previous (blank) fly leaf, slightly rough eadges to engraved title of Vol III. Beautifully figured tree calf. These three volumes represent the poetical works of John Gay (1685-1732) and are numbered 80,81, and 82 on the spine (gilt worn). Includes his Fables for which he is best known. A most attractive little set. Bells Poets, published in the 18th century consisted of the works of some 48 poets, and totalled over one hundred volumes. Second Edition Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
