Edinburgh: Apollo Press for John Bell, 1780. 155 pp, additional engraved title. Contemporary tree calf bordered in gilt with gilt decoration to spine, maroon and black title labels lightly rubbed, gilt number 51 on the spine; marbled endpapers. Very lightly rubbed at edges and spine. The 18th century bookplate of A Walker, Newry laid down on a blank prelim. Light toning to preliminaries. Beautifully figured tree calf. This volume contains the poet's The Choice (the poem for which he is best known), Prospect of Death, Reason, Last Epiphany, Divine Attributes, Eleazar's Lament, etc, etc, etc. John Pomfret (1667 - 1702) was an English poet and clergyman. Bells Poets, published in the 18th century consisted of the works of some 48 poets, and totalled over one hundred volumes. . Reprint. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
