Edinburgh: Apollo Press for John Bell, 1781. 2 volumes. 176, 191 pp, additional engraved title, engraved portrait. Contemporary tree calf bordered in gilt with gilt decoration to spine, maroon and black title labels; marbled endpapers. Very lightly rubbed at edges and spine with each volume having the 18th century bookplate of A Walker, Newry at front. Light toning to preliminaries. Beautifully figured tree calf. These two volumes represent the complete poetical works of Mark Akenside 1721-1770) and are numbered 104 and 105 on the spine. British poet and physician principally known for his poem The Pleasures of Imagination. A most attractive little set. Bells Poets, published in the 18th century consisted of the works of some 48 poets, and totalled over one hundred volumes. . First Edition Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
