About This Item
New York: Butler Brothers, unknown: 1888 or earlier. Good. Butler Brothers was not a publisher but rather a retail/wholesale operation established in 1877 (Wikipedia) that supplied "5&10" cent stores. There is a stamp from "C.S. Woolworth's Variety Store, Scranton, Pa." inside the cover. There is also an article about the benefits of such a mercantile at the back of the book. Brown boards w/ a black decorative design and the author's name in a gilt square on spine in very good condition considering its age: usual signs of wear along edges and spine but otherwise the cover is solid. Binding tight. Text block in solid condition; age-related discoloration. No writing, highlighting, or marks in text except for gift inscription dated 1888. viii, 536 pp.
