Edinburgh: Apollo Press for John Bell, 1784. 216 pp, additional engraved title, engraved portrait. Contemporary tree calf bordered in gilt with gilt decoration to spine, maroon and black title labels lightly rubbed, gilt number 56 on the spine, rubbed ; marbled endpapers. Light toning to preliminaries. Very lightly rubbed at edges and spine. The 18th century bookplate of A Walker, Newry laid down the portrait recto. Light toning to preliminaries. Beautifully figured tree calf. This volume contains the poet's epistles, irregular odes, pindarick odes, pastorals, elegies, songs, prologues, epilogues, miscellanies, imitations, translations, etc, etc, etc. William Congreve (1670 - 1729) was an English playwright and poet. Bells Poets, published in the 18th century consisted of the works of some 48 poets, and totalled over one hundred volumes. . Reprint. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
