Maps printed in black on the endpapers and pastedowns. Price of $3.50 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Illustrated with a frontispiece and with seven plates. Adams Six-Guns 412. Howes C-291. Rader 657. A history of the critical mail delivery service: from its early days and the Congressional disputes over which routes were to be used, to the contract distribution, to the incidents different riders experienced along the trail, and a short biography of one rider, William Campbell. Chapman's narrative ends with the invention of the telegraph. Some offsetting to the rear pastedown; jacket is Very Good with a few traces of edge wear.
