Coulombe, Charles A., 1960- The Pope's legion: the multinational fighting force that defended the Vatican. New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008, 260p, bib, index, [8] p. of plates: illus. Very good in dust jacket. $14.50 Box A 106
Good background information on Keogh and other volunteers for Pope Pius IX in his struggle against the Savoys. Coulombe posits, along with others, that Keogh's body was not mutilated because "many of Sitting Bull's men were Catholic". Further research is necessary to validate the claim.
