About This Item

Irish in America 106ccp (The Plains Indians and other tribes/Battle of the Little Big Horn, June 25-26, 1876/Keogh, Myles, 1840-1876). Coulombe, Charles A., 1960- The Pope's legion: the multinational fighting force that defended the Vatican. New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008, 260p, bib, index, [8] p. of plates: illus. Very good in dust jacket. $14.50 Box A 106

Good background information on Keogh and other volunteers for Pope Pius IX in his struggle against the Savoys. Coulombe posits, along with others, that Keogh's body was not mutilated because "many of Sitting Bull's men were Catholic". Further research is necessary to validate the claim. (See also: Lucio Martino: Gli irlandesi contro i Savoia: il battaglione di San Patrizio nelle Marche e Umbria durante il Risorgimento: i reduci nelle guerre del Far West.
