The scarce fifth issue of Popular Flying in original illustrated cover. Edited by W.E Johns, with significant contributions by him including a Biggles story, centrefold illustration and article on Baron von Richthofen. Includes the fifth appearance of Biggles in the story "The Blue Devil" (under the pen name 'William Earle', with illustrations by Howard Leigh). Near Very Good condition with small marks to the front cover, minor edge wear including a small tear to the lower edge and holes where the rusty staples have been removed. No inscriptions.
William Earl Johns (5 February 1893 – 21 June 1968) was an English pilot and writer of adventure stories, usually written under the pen name Captain W. E. Johns. He is best remembered as the creator of the ace pilot and adventurer Biggles.
