New York: Greeley and McElrath, 1851. Octavo. In two volumes. Half-titles, 608 and 568pp., (5)pp publisher's ads. folding frontispiece to volume I, several textual illustrations and full page illustrations with tissue guards. The author traveled and gave lectures on scientific studies. He had then brought to a close his public lectures and was given the opportunity to publish his lectures. These discourses were designed for the use of the general reader. They include such topics as the steam engine, the heavens, heat and light, effects of lightning, elasticity of air, the barometer, electricity , etc. Bound in publisher's brown embossed cloth, spine lettering gilt, yellow endpapers, some rubbing to edges with a few spots rubbed through cloth. A nice set.
