An essay in which 'D H Lawrence discusses current conceptions of what is clean and what is dirty'. The essay originally had appeared in 'This Quarter', when published by Faber the names of Galsworthy & Barrie were omitted from the text. Faber asked Home Secretary Lord Brentford to write an essay in favor of censorship to counter Lawrence's. Lawrence was eletaed when his pamphlet sold etter than his rivals. Roberts A49a.

Orange wraps stamped in black to the front cover with sewn binding. A very good, clean copy. No inscriptions. Three of the four card cover corners a little bumped with consequential creasing. A slight circular stain mark to the front card cover less than 2mm in diameter and one or two other tiny marks. An expertly repaired nick to the head of the front card cover. A very good copy.

Softcover; 32 pages.Condition:Light soiling to the covers; there is a small stain near the bottom of the front cover. There is a 2" tear at the bottom edge of the spine; the top edge of the spine is worn. Name(?) written lightly in pencil at the top of the front cover. The pages are clean and nearly appear unread with only initials written in pen at the top of the first page. There is foxing on the blank back-side of the outer wrap. Overall the book is in Good condition.

A short essay on censorship by the the author of Lady Chatterly's Lover which summarizes Lawrence's position as presented in a 1929 debate on the subject with Viscount Brentford. This copy is labeled "first and second prining before publication. It is somewhat worn but remains very readable. Binding is firm. Boards are rubbed and scuffed with moderate edge wear.
