Signed [Stellman is also spelled Stellmann] [8.25x6in] 416 pp., frontispiece of riders on horseback overlooking San Francisco Bay with cloud visions of contemporary cityscape, 15 illustrations; Yellow cloth covers with black lettering on spine, all edges trimmed; Cream, gray and gold dust jacket with black and white lettering on spine and front, illustration of frontispiece on front, advertisements on back; Minor shelf wear to covers, edges and corners, orange line imperfection on covers, front hinge cracked, inscription by author dated 1926 on front end paper, bookseller stamp of "John Howell Importer, San Francisco" on lower back end paper; Shelf wear to Dust Jacket along all edges, chips to top and bottom of spine, edges and corners, slight darkening of spine, slight soiling of covers. [Cowan p. 613]. Louis J. Stellmann (1877-1961) was a photographer, newspaper columnist, biographer and poet. He worked with the San Francisco Examiner and Los Angeles Herald. He write several books. This is a fictionalized story of the growth of San Francisco based on real events and people that were directly involved.
