About This Item

Small Quarto 10 1/8 x 7 1/2 inches; 255 x 190 mm), xiv, [2], 180 pages, in brown cloth, titles to upper board and spine, in an illustrated dust jacket.

SIGNED by Ben Shahn on the front end paper and dated "Nov 6th 1953 / Ann Arbor." An admiring biography of the great radical artist (1898-1969). It's also signed by a previous owner, Jean Paul Slusser (1905-1978), an artist, professor and director of the University of Michigan Art Museum. A nice association. Copies signed by Shahn are uncommon.

CONDITION: Very Good, with rubbing along the edges and a tear along the rear hinge. The dust jacket, which is only Fair, has two large splits along the spine as well as some chipping at the top of the spine, on both panels and on the rear flap, and some writing on the rear flap.
