Originally published in 1834 by The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in an expensive (and now quite rare) edition. This beautiful collection of engraved portraits is not so rare as the earlier edition, but complete sets are still scarce. Beautifully bound in full tan calf with gilt-decorated spines. The books are in very good condition: clean and tight, with very light uniform toning of pages but virtually no foxing. Some rubbing on leather borads; minor staining on a couple of the front covers.. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
