Hardcover Book in Good+ Condition. No jacket. Octavo. 317 pages. A memoir and portrait of Max Beerbohm (1872-1956), novelist, essayist, critic, and member of the leading literary and theatrical circles of the late nineteenth century. Binding of blue cloth , black w/ blue bordered panel on spine with gilt lettering. Clean, unmaked, tight and solid. Boards & spine sunned to three shades of blue. Top corners seriously bumped, with some light creasing of tips of first few pages on upper corner. Interior is clean, & unmarked. Forty illustrations absolutely marvelous--Thomas Hardy composing a lyric, Ronald Searle's caricature of Max Beerbohm (Caesar with a cigarette in a cigarette holder, with his crown of leaves), so many caricatures of folks--wonderful. Sir Max was a member of the leading literary and theatrical circles of the late nineteenth century, recreating such figures as Shaw, Yeats, Kipling, Arnold Bennett, Winston Churchill, Oscar Wilde, Henry James and others.He was a novelist, essayist, critic, and supreme caricaturist.
