One of only one hundred copies printed. Red-brown cloth boards with tan spine. Evidence of repair/rebacking. Black title to front board surface rubbed almost free of black. No title. Rubbing to edges and corners. Marble endpapers. Hinges repaired with dark brown library tape. Previous owner listed plates in pencil on front endpaper. Two inch closed tear opposite p. 22. Fascinating caricatures of the personages described therein. "...The tragedy of the death of the King was now drawing to a close, and it is evident that Cromwell was the prime manager of that catastrophe. He acted his part with his usual self-possession and hypocrisy, although his conduct was sufficiently open in some respects; as he sat upon the trial, signed the death-warrant, and urged on the execution. The state of Ireland now demanded notice, where three parties were in arms against each other. Cromwell undertook the command, and acting withhis usual dispatch, he stormed Drogheda, which was defended by 2,500 troops, and it is suposed that not more than thirty escaped..." (pp. 2 & 3).
