London: George Allen & Unwin LTD, 1938. This modernist play by Capek received its first London production at the Savoy Theatre in April of 1938, staring Oscar Homolka. "A parable of dramatic force and satirical implications. Brilliantly satirical" and "One of the finest pieces ever produced" are two of the reviews quoted on the rear flap. This is a Fine copy of the First Edition. Red cloth binding with titling on the spine and front cover in blue. Clean text; 97 pages, with a two-page publisher's catalog in the rear. The dustwrapper is Very Good. The spine has darkened and there is a tiny chip at the head. Minor edgewear. In an archival plastic protector.. First UK Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
