Chatto & Windus, London, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic and Illustrations. Foreword by authors, acknowledgements, table of dates, list of figures, bibliography, appendix and index. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece, showing a partially collapsed megalithic tomb in Cornwell. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs and numerous figures within the text. Yellow coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. In this book the authors " ... take their story (of Britain) through the Bronze and Iron Ages up to the civilisation that flowered after the Roman Conquest of Claudius."  from the rear dustwrapper panel. A little rubbing of the back strip edges and to the book corners. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with foxing to the text block edges. Offset tanning and foxing to the end pages and there is a gift inscription, Christmas 1947, to the front paste-down. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and to the back strip edge  in fact the top and bottom back strip edge are missing approximately 1/4 inch each. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with sunning to the back strip with some foxing to the rear fold over crease. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [4], V - XVI, 280 pages,.
