Octavo, [4], 355pp. Publisher's green cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Light rubbing to tips of spine, internally clean. Top edge gilt. Bookplate of Walter Merriam Pratt front endpaper, blind stamp on half-title. (Coletta, 108) Inscribed by former President William H. Taft: "Sincerely yours / William H. Taft / Nov. 21st 1916." Published during the election of 1908, Present Day Problems was a collection of speeches delivered during Taft's time in the Philippines and as Secretary of War for Theodore Roosevelt. The book was inscribed in 1916, after he had left office, but before he began his second career as a Supreme Court Justice.
