Published 1551, the rarer Venice edition (also published in Florence in 1551); the second volume of this edition was published in 1554. 8vo, early 20th century half midnight blue morocco with marbled boards, marbled endpapers, front joint subsequently repaired, with some filling-in at the upper spine, contents good to very good, collated complete: 534 leaves, with numerous mistakes in pagination, including: ff. 161-184 are wrongly numbered 191-214; ff. 257-328 are wrongly numbered 255-326; ff. 529-534 are wrongly numbered 521-526. Paul Giovio (1483-1552) was a scholar, prelate, historian, and collector. His villa at Lake Como was filled with portraits, antiques and collections, and he was the first to include antiquities and pieces from the New World in his collection. In 1549 the Pope denied him the title of Bishop of Como; he moved to Florence and died there.
