About This Item
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1958. First Edition. Cloth. Collectible Acceptable/fair. 8vo, pp. [10], 9-319, [1]. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt accents. Stated first edition. Signed and inscribed by author inside the front cover: "Jim and Eleanor xxx, old friends on a new island. With affection, Jonathan Daniels, April 26, 1972." Firm binding; no loose pages. Boards with bumping and a small tear at top spine. Tanned edges and pages; small stains noted on two pages (see photograph). Price-clipped dust jacket with chips and tears, and a small section missing at top spine; now encased in a clear, protective cover. From a review by Carl Sandburg: "Much of Jonathan Daniels' book 'Prince of Carpetbaggers' reads like entertaining fiction even though the characters are taken from documents and are more real and believable than those we meet in the run-of-mill novels of our day."
