Ex-library book with remains of pocket on front endpaper and library numbering also on front endpaper. Dark cloth covers have some spots and bumping on top/bottom of spine and corners. There is a note at the beginning of the book by the author that indicates that he was not happy with this work but was rather forced into publishing it and is apologizing to the public.

Inscription dated 1902, "Nellie T Dana, Pomfret, Vermont".. Saunders, Florence I. (? ) (Name on Illustrations).. 0 393 p., ; 19 cm. Grayscale Plates. Tan cloth over boards. Cover: black silhouetted ship in green sea. Black & red line boarders; black & red titles. The story begins in the South Atlantic where, "the march of civilization has turned its steps aside...". The narrator descibes a monotonous scenery, then seeing a 2nd ship, 1 tall and masted, a merchantman; the other yacht-like, seemingly not as spedy as it is. The larger, on being boarded by British navymen from the small "slave-catcher", was found to have a single exhausted, ragged man who had tied himself to his wheel seat.
