This is signed first edition of a study of the private correspondence of Machiavelli by the author of a previous biography published in French and Spanish; in this book, the author provides a brief summary of Machiavelli's life, followed by a critical analysis of all the letters written by and to him; includes a frontispiece portrait of Machiavelli and nine other illustrations; inscribed, signed, and dated (August 9, 1929) by the author to the syndicated columnist Drew Pearson; the author, a graduate of the University of Naples, had gone to Cuba to take part in the independence movement, became a colonel in the Cuban army, professor of law at the University of Havana, speaker of the Cuban House of Representatives, Cuban delegate to the League of Nations, and Cuban ambasador to the United States (green textured cloth with gold lettering, bright on the front cover, faded on the spine, top of spine worn, pages slightly tanned; otherwise a bright, clean, tight copy)
