Blue cloth, title gilt on spine and front panel, which has a floral decoration in gilt. vi, 331, [publisher's device] pp. A collection of short stories. From the library of Beatrix Farrand, with her bookplate on the the front pastedown and initialed by Mary Cadwalader Jones on front free endpaper: "M. C. J. Paris, 1895." Beatrix Farrand was one of America's greatest landscape architects. Her mother, Mary Cadwalader Jones, was the sister-in-law, and literary agent of Edith Wharton. Jones was a close friend of Henry James, who was often a guest at her town house in New York City. Foxing to edges and several pages including endpapers, else VG.
