Octavo (19.5cm.); red-orange boards quarterbound in purple, stamped in gilt on the spine with red-orange topstain; 284pp. Spine gilt is dulled as usual, slight rubbing to spine ends and board corners; still a solidly Very Good copy, lacking the dustwrapper.
The Professor's House was Cather's first commercially successful book. The 20,000 copy first printing was sold out three weeks prior to publication, and within a month of distribution the book had already outsold any of her previously published books, ultimately going into eight printings within the year it was issued.
