London: Trubner & Co.. Fair with no dust jacket. 1853. Second Edition. Hardcover. No signatures. Small 3/8" tear to stub of folding map. Gutter partly split between half-title and folding map, and also between folding map and title page. Later paper spine. At some point the whole boards would have been under a later paper covering, as at present the only remains are the brown paper on the spine and also the same brown paper present as flaps pasted down onto the endpapers, which obscure the text of the advertisement on the rear pastedown. 1/2" chip to blank margin of one leaf. Binding moderately shaky.; lxx, 438, [2 (blank)] pages + 12 pages advertisements + advertisements on endpapers.Contemporary? green papered boards with later paper spine. Page dimensions: 188 x 107mm. Pages vii-xi are a preface to the second edition. The folding map is titled "Illustration of the course of English & German Manufactures to Central Asia", and shows the area from England in the west to Hindoostan (India) in the east, with trade routes marked in red, manufacturing districts coloured red, and the extent of the Russian empire marked in blue. The printed area of the map measures c. 280 x 185mm. Contents: Preface to Second Edition; The Crossing of the Pruth and the Passing of the Dardanelles; Objects of the Work; The West: Part I - Spain, Part II - Hungary; The North: Part I - Scandinavia, Part II - The Danish Succession; The South: Part I - The Danube and Euxine, Part II - The Levant and the Red Sea; Conclusion. More specifically, the sub-headings within the contents list matters such as the history, diplomatic relations, treaties, commerce, commercial relations etc. of these areas.; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall .
