"THE NEW NATIONALISM" First edition thus of Herbert Croly's pivotal work on the American experiment, edited and with an Introduction by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. First printed in 1909, Croly's history of the dual Hamiltonian and Jeffersonian traditions set the stage for Theodore's Roosevelt's New Nationalism, the Progressive agenda of the New Republic magazine and, eventually, FDR's New Deal. This edition was part of The John Harvard Library of American classics, edited by Bernard Bailyn.
