Cracks to guttering throughout, with exposed netting. Some rub-marking and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers with inscriptions to front. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Book has noticeable forward lean. Boards are slightly bowed and tanned.

Lettering to spine faded to be nearly illegible; cloth covers are scuffed and abraded with large patch of wear to centre of spine and further nibbling to tail; some foxing and soil marks to edges of block; light foxing to first and last leaves. First published in 1931, Idriess's 'how-to' manual was extremely popular, going into a second print run within a month. By 1932 it was into its third edition and over the next decade several more editions followed, making it a compendium of information for any historian of mining and metallurgy.
