London: T. Hatchard, 1853. Thirteenth Edition. Full leather. Very good. Thirteenth edition of Proverbial Philosophy by Martin F. Tupper, with a fore-edge painting depicting a golfing scene.. Twelvemo, viii, 514pp, [4pp ads]. Full green morocco, decorative gilt border on covers with blind stamped motif in center. Title stamped in gilt on spine, raised bands with gilt embellishments. All edges gilt. Pale yellow endpapers with decorative gilt turn-ins. Board edges rubbed, lower corners bumped. Spine rubbed, lightly worn at tips. Front endpapers partially cracked at hinge, but binding is solid. Occasional pencil marks on text pages. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover. Bookseller's label on front pastedown. Previous owner's name in ink on front free endpaper. Features a fore-edge painting of golfers out on the course with clubhouse in background. A nice example.
