To Which is Added, A View of the History of the Jesuits, and The Late Bull for the Revival of the Order in Europe. ~Half dark blue morocco, hand-marbled paper to boards. Raised bands, gilt ruling, gilt numerals, and blue gilt label to spine. Red and white headbands. A very little faint spotting to leather on front board. 8vo (15.5 x 23.5cm). Hinges sound. Endpapers uncracked over gutters. Replacement laid paper endpapers. Bookbinder's stamp to rear pastedown: James Ashton, London, England. Minor scattered foxing. A little pencil sidelining. English translation of Pascal's intervention in the formulary controversy in defence of the Jansenists, written between 1656 and 1657. A very attractive 20th-century binding. ~Robust packaging.
