About This Item
1893. 85 Illustrations par L. Benett. 12 Grandes Gravures en Chromotypographie. 1 Carte en couleurs. Paris: J. Hetzel et Cie., n.d. [1893]. 8 pp ads dated 1893-1894. Original red cloth decorated in many colors, all edges gilt.
First Illustrated Edition of the tale translated into English as FOUNDLING MICK (published by Sampson Low of London, in 1895). Although the tale continued to be published in the U.K. (and in Ireland, as A LAD OF GRIT), the tale was never published in America. This is the appropriate earliest binding for this title, the cartonnage "au portrait collé," and this copy has the appropriate earliest ad catalogue dated 1893-1894. This is a remarkably bright copy, fine except for very slight fading of the red spine and for a bit of foxing on a few leaves within. A rather scarce title. Bottin pp 319-320; Gondolo della Riva 56C.
