New York: Slote, Woodman & Co., 1878. 140pp + 2pp ads. Or cobalt blue cloth ornately decorated in blind stamped black with title in gilt to spine. Slightly rubbed at corners, slight shelf wear at head and foot of spine, small marks to front board, ink stain on rear board, small piece of blue paper stuck to bottom left of title page, previous owners gift inscription dated July 15, 1878. Meets first issue points as per Blanck's Bibliography of American Literature (1957; Vol 2, p191, #3378). Blue cloth with blue endpapers, terminal pastedown with picture of Mark Twain's Scrap Book measuring 2" x 2 7/8". Author's name on title page in Roman type (later issues had facsimilie signature). On 4th line from bottom on page 91 reads "health offi..... could " where later issues have "health officer's funeral could". Page 101 has a total of 13 lines of text. The blue cloth is given as primary issue, with other colours secondary. An very nice bright copy of this scarce lesser known Twain title.. First Editon, First State.. Hard Cover. Near Fine. 12mo.
